Literary Workshop: Writing Through Grief

Category: General/Other

April 30th, 5:30pm

Sarah Kilch Gaffney

Location

Compass Rose Books, Main St. Castine.

Castine Arts Association will host Writing Through Grief, a writing workshop with writer Sarah Kilch Gaffney on Tuesday, April 30 at 5:30 p.m. at Compass Rose Books.

In this workshop, participants will join Gaffney to learn how expressive writing and journaling can help participants navigate grief in all its forms, from the death of a loved one to illness, from injury to divorce, or family estrangement and more. Participants will hear readings, try out writing prompts, and learn about the benefits of expressive writing and journaling, as well as take home some helpful tools and ideas.

No writing experience is necessary. Anyone experiencing any kind of grief is welcome. All workshop participants receive a journal to take home with them to continue their practice.

“We will all face different types of grief at various times in our lives,” said Casey Bernard, Castine Arts Literary Chair.  “Writing can be a healthy way to process feelings and find the words for what might be hard to say. This workshop will hopefully be one of many future opportunities for experimenting with writing and the literary arts.”

Sarah Kilch Gaffney is a writer, brain injury advocate, and community writing workshop facilitator living in central Maine. Castine was her home as a child when her father worked at Maine Maritime Academy. “It is a surreal and delightful thing to be returning to Castine after all these years for such a purpose,” she said.

Tickets are $20. Space is limited. Payment is required to hold reservations. To register, contact Castine Arts Association Literary Chair, Casey Bernard at caseympb@gmail.com or 512-217-5774.
